This April, precisely 15th April 2024, 4pm Abuja book community will be agog as All and Sundry will gather at Adams Pages at KingFem Plaza Mabushi to witness the historic book reading/ Signing of ABOUT US ( Essays and Poems Colored by an African Experience) by Uzoma Chukwuocha.
Uzoma Chukwuocha, doubles as the Director of The Lean Perspective, Inc. (TLP) a community development nonprofit aimed at alleviating health, educational and welfare needs of in-need children and women in sub-Saharan Africa, primarily, and wherever else they may be found.
The catch behind this Book Reading/ Signing event, is that proceeds from the sales of the book will be channelled into the donation of mini libraries and books to indigent schools in rural communities.
In July 2019, The Non profit donated a mini library and books to over 500 students of LEA primary school, Tungan Kwasou in Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
According to Dr. Chukwuocha the “Readers To Leaders mini library project” is aimed at increasing literacy and imbibing a reading culture among children, in a bid to widen their scope of influence and experience while still in their local environment.
The initial gesture is a pilot of a wider plan to establish a Readers To Leaders Library in schools in each of the six geopolitical regions of the country, then each State of the federation, and maybe each LGA. “Yes, phones & computers are the new day, but before the computers or phones get to them let them learn how to read first.”
The book (ABOUT US) is currently available in Kenya and Nigeria and soon will be in leading bookstores and online platforms.
